Fortunately, I was able to spend a lot of quality of time with Grandma this visit. Her 24 hour caregiver quit when we arrived December 29 so Mom and I tagged-teamed to care for Grandma. Although she was unable to move her body or legs herself, her mind was completely sharp and on task!
We had many laughs, we went through her recipes and she she gave me some insight on good ones or who's recipes they were.
I am truly blessed I was able to have this time with Grandma. Grandma died on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the age of 90 years old.
Gladys Cesario, 90, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2014, in Hilton Head, S.C.
Born Sept. 4, 1923, in Britton, Mich., she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in 2009. She is survived by daughters, Janet Rivers of Bluffton, S.C., and Nancy Goettner of Sylvania, Ohio; son, Gary of Walnut Cove, N.C.; sister, Wanda Goodlock of Addison, Mich.; brother, Bob Shough of Avon Park, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Gladys spent most of her early married life in Adrian, employed first by The Rainbow Restaurant and then later by Ace Drill Corp. After being on her own for two years, she moved to Hilton Head in 2011 to be nearer to family.
Her body will be cremated, and a service will be held in Adrian at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to The National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, N.Y. 10016 or Sanctuary Hospice, P.O. Box 161, Ridgeland, S.C. 29936.
